The science education team “Hong Kong Science Temple” first introduced simple sound principles to children and adults in a lively and interesting way, including the vibration of particles and the speed of sound.

Then, they introduced the new soundscape system installed in the Yuen Long Theatre Auditorium with Allen, a sound engineer from d&b audiotechnik. They first dismantled for everyone why the previous sound system had the so-called “emperor seat”, and then demonstrated that under the new system, the audience can feel the best sound effect no matter where they sit.

In the past, if a group of actors performed on stage, everyone might not notice who was speaking immediately. Now, the new system helps audiences track where is the sound comes from. The children who participated in the audition session were able to find out who was singing among the actors who turned their backs to the audience.

Soundscape technology can also take the audience out of the theater and go on a wonderful journey of perception! During the process, it seemed that you were in different places around the world and listened to the musicals that were being staged in front of you. Allen, the sound engineer, even demonstrated to the audience how to sit in the Yuen Long Theatre and feel the sound experience of being in Basilica of San Vitale!

Apart from theatre performances, Zuni also actively promotes arts education. This audition session hopes to introduce sound art to adults and children through interesting demonstrations, and to build a “Future Classroom” with Arts Tech and theater, so that children can understand several abstract concepts more effectively. In the following, the Zuni drama season will continue to present various types of theater productions, including Hua-yen Buddhaverse, which integrates art, technology, mindfulness and religion, and also Lai Chi WOW!. We hope children and adults can walk into this future classroom with us and experience the fun of theater!
