 In early October, The Lab hold the “Conference-Unconference” at the Theatre Studio, Esplanade. During the “Conference”, Yung engaged with Singaporean artists, scholars, and the public in a discourse on the topic “Ways of Framing.” The session delved into how experiences are contextualized and the future potential of technology in artistic creation. Also, in the “Unconference,” the theatre was set with various booths, allowing overseas advisory panelists and artist teams to be distributed among them to take turns leading discussions. 

During the consultations, Yung was asked about the rationals and discoveries behind his continuous exploration of traditional performing art forms with technology over the decads. He shared we should not isolate technology from art, but it is often artists tend to see technology as a relatively supportive creative element until they encounter difficulties in the creative process, and realizing the barrier of “technology.” He encouraged artists to “Consider their exploration of technology as a mirror, enabling themselves to structural reflecting on their own artistic practices” and to boldly explore the existing boundaries of creative activities.

The nine-month lab starting from Aug 2023 and. In the past month, besides the physical conference, the panelists have started online consultations with the participating artist groups in preparing the shortlisted artists for the second phase of the Lab’s work-in-progress sharing.
