With stage installation, audio-visual and lighting technology in arts tech, the audience could experience a real-time real-space, irreplaceable and immersive theatre space.

It introduces the four pillars of Chinese opera—singing, reciting, acting and martial arts, which are also the basics. The study of Chinese culture and enjoying xiqu begins with these four elements.

5 plays in 3 combinations on stage. Jin Yong Xiqu Theatre – The Smiling, Proud Wanderer consists of several newly adapted opera excerpts. Peking opera, kun opera, Naamyam, and the four elements of xiqu are all employed in the performance in memorial of Jin Yong, the master of wuxia literature.

By experimenting with two wusheng opera excerpts, Drowning and Tilting the War Carts, the programme explores how wusheng moves express anger, anxiety, doubt, and the unavoidable metaphysical theme—death. It strives to innovate traditional Chinese opera passed down for generations, to resonate with a contemporary and international audience.
