Congratulations to Lee Ken Tsai, the visual designer of “ZUNI 40 UNCOMING” and assistant professor at the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, for winning the TDC Awards 2022 – Communication Design with The Tao of Fashion poster design. The design has been selected by The Type Directors Club to receive the “Certificate of Excellence” and as one of the winners of “The World’s Best Typography”.
Mathias Woo Arts Tech Fashion Theatre: The Tao of Fashion was one of the programmes in Zuni Theatre Season 2021. Mathias Woo, the director, and fashion designer referred to the first line in Tao Te Ching – “The Way that is speakable is not the constant Way” as the concept and developed eighty-one combinations of nine “Tao” tops and nine “Te” bottoms. The eighty-one combinations of outfits echo with the eighty-one chapters in Tao Te Ching. Lee Ken Tsai’s graphic design is rendered in the style of Futurism, while the animation resonates with the inspirations of the director and fashion designer.
Lee Ken Tsai is a designer, curator, educator. He is currently the assistant professor of the Department of Industrial & Commercial Design at the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology. In recent years, Lee has worked with Zuni on various occasions as the graphic designer – poster design for “The Architecture of the City” (2017), Zuni Theatre Season 2019 “Beautiful Space” key visual, and a series of animation designs in Zuni Theatre Season 2021 “Hong Kong in Experiment“.
