The apartment of Graham Hill, a ICAC Investigator in the book, is based on the senior civil servant quarter Nairn House. Remember to keep quiet when you explore the area outside the building!

Yau Ma Tei Fruit Market has a history over one hundred years. The freshest and cheapest fruit could be found during the busiest hours, which is in the morning. Although this place is not directly related to the kidnapping, it is mentioned in a nearby drug trafficking case and it is definitely worth visiting!

Graham Hill is required to bring along seventy thousand ransom and diamond accessories to Lok Heung Yuen Coffee Shop for the next call. It is famous for being a “snake nest”, a place to slack off at work. The restaurant in the book is located Wellington Street, which was the former site in reality. It reopened on Gilman’s Bazaar until its closure in 2019. There are still several unique old shops in that area.

Queen’s Road Central connects Central and Sheung Wan, making it the main road in Hong Kong Island. Tourist spots like Chater Garden and Statue Square, together with a variety of shops, including goldsmith shops where Graham Hill exchanges cash for gold bars, could be found along the way.

Graham Hill needs to rush to the last stop, Kennedy Town Swimming Pool, with the gold bars in his hands. The swimming pool he goes to is the first generation, located at Smithfield. The second generation is reconstructed in Sai Cheung Street North, for the extension of Island line to Western District. It is such a pity that there are no longer “steel cages” in the changing rooms, but you would get your money’s worth from the panoramic sea view!

The first route is just for beginners. Let’s move on to a more challenging one! No spoilers this time! It would be fun to explore the places and their history on your own.

(Hint: Most stops have significant changes over the years. You might be able to get a surprise through observing the difference between the past and present.)
