YANG Junfeng (Chongqing / Chuanju performer)

Yang Junfeng, from Chongqing, is one of the emerging performers of contemporary Sichuan opera. He first entered public view as a film and television actor, beginning his performing career in 2007 with the television drama The Fairy Couple (Tian Xian Pei), in which he played Liu Daxia. He later gradually turned towards xiqu and stage performance, entering the professional theatre troupe system. In recent years, while continuing to perform in Sichuan opera, he has also worked across different theatrical genres and cultural forms, including participation in the documentary Ambition in the Marketplace (2019) and the film Time Tomb (2024). In the same year, he formally became a disciple of renowned Sichuan opera Yang-school master Yang Ronghua, and, under the witness of artist Shu Yuanhui, became a third-generation inheritor of the Yang school, establishing his position within the Sichuan opera lineage.

In addition to being a performer, he is also active in theatre production. In 2022, he served as revival producer for the National Peking Opera Company’s Attack on the Zhu Family Manor. In 2024, he participated in the productions of the youth edition of The Female Generals of the Yang Family and the contemporary Peking opera Old Auntie, demonstrating his organisational and cross-disciplinary integration abilities within traditional xiqu. He has also participated in Yu opera performances and touring productions (2024), reflecting his adaptability across different xiqu contexts.
