Cecilia Yip

Cecilia Yip, Hong Kong-based actress, first started her career with playing the female lead in Nomad (1982). Her acting was further recognised for Let’s Make Laugh (1983) and This Thing Called Love (1991), which both saw her win Best Actress at the Hong Kong Film Awards. Since then, she has garnered several accolades and nominations for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress.

She went on to star in a succession of television dramas and films, Hong Kong 1941 (1984), Beyond the Sunset (1989), To Be Number One (1991), Peace Hotel (1995), Love Never Ends (2023), New Legend of Madame White Snake (1992), The Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber (1994), etc. Apart from her successes onscreen, Yip has also performed in plays. She first appeared on stage for Les Liaisons Dangereuses, then she starred in The Wilderness, Magic is the Moonlight and A Streetcar Named Desire. Later, she won the ‘Performer of the Year’ award from the International Association of Theatre Critics (IATC-HK) for King Lear and was nominated for the Best Supporting Actress (Comedy/Farce) at the 29th Hong Kong Drama Awards for her role in Dead Man’s Cell Phone.
