Ellen, formerly a radiographer, started her creative career in the 80s. Transformed from super-8 film to videotaping and new-media arts, she fell in love with the life and death within images, the instability and symbolism of truth and false embedded in the language of words and images. Ellen’s works have been exhibited at various main film festivals and exhibitions. She also participates in different international film festivals and art biennials, including the Hong Kong International Film Festival (1990), the 8th International Film Festival for Women (Spain, 1992), “Container 96” of Copenhagen Cultural Capital Foundation (Denmark, 1996), Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art (Lisboa, 1996), Johannesburg Biennial (1997), the 49th Venice Biennial (2001), and Gwangju Biennial (2002).
In the middle 1980s, Pau began to collabroate with Zuni Icosahedron. In 1986, Ellen co-founded Videotage with Wong Chi Fai, May Fung, and Comyn Mo. She founded Microwave International New Media Arts Festival in 1996. In 2014, Ellen was appointed as the chairperson of the Art Form Group in Film and Media Arts by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council, as well as a member of the M+ acquisitions committee of West Kowloon Cultural District in the same year.
