Journey to a Dream (Singapore)
Singapore Southernmost Festival
In September, Danny Yung and Belt Road artists have created the One Belt One Road Experimental Theatre – The Interrupted Dream: Chinois Dream at Château de Versailles. This November, Danny Yung continues his “journey searching for the dream”; this time, he is coming to Singapore and Indonesia. The “Journey to the East – One Table Two Chairs” project took off in 1997; in over 20 years, Danny has travelled to cities around the world, including Nanjing, Okinawa, Tokyo, New York, London, Pennsylvania, Berlin, etc. Today, “One Table Two Chairs”, as borrowed from Chinese Kunqu, has evolved into a theatrical experiment – “One Table Many Chairs”. At the festival, artists from different cities specializing in various performing art forms come together and continuously engage in inter-disciplinary and cross-cultural dialogues.
Voyaging to Singapore, Zuni and Emergency Stairs is co-presenting the 3rd Edition of the “Southernmost Festival: One Table Many Chairs”. This time, Danny Yung, Liu Xiaoyi and Cedric Chan are co-directing “Journey to a Dream” with some of the performers from “The Interrupted Dream: Chinois Dream at Château de Versailles” – classical Javanese dancer Didik Nini Thowok, Kunqu lead actress Shen Yili from Shanghai, Phnom Penh contemporary/ traditional dancer Nget Rady, renowned contemporary dancer/choreographer/theatre performer from Tokyo, Makoto Matsushima, Singaporean traditional Malay dance dancer Soultari Amin Farid, contemporary performing artist Sabrina Sng from Singapore, Hong Kong Cantonese opera artist Jason Kong, Kunqu artist Chao-hsin from Taipei, and traditional Thai dance dancer Guide/ Nattapon Wannaun from Hatyai. The “Journey to a Dream” will be performing in Centre 42, Singapore; once again, the artists and audience cross-over boundaries and cultures.
The One Belt One Road Experimental Theatre touring to Singapore and Indonesia is mainly sponsored by Hong Kong Economic, Trade and Cultural Office (Singapore and Jakarta).
